Automatic Reversing Tram
The automatic reversing tram started out life as an attempt to create a
fully-independent vehicle that would sense collisions with obstacles and alter
its course. But without the aid of the electronics found in the more recent
K'nex robot kits or from other sources, this vehicle gradually evolved into a
fully-tracked tram-like vehicle that would ply its way back and forth between
two ends of a straight track. A number of ideas for self-propelled cars were
tried, but the most sturdy and reliable was this cablecar-like creation that
uses a hinge with a continuous, electrically-powered chain for vehicle
propulsion.
