Tower
Sooner or later, every K'nex aficionado wants to build the biggest tower. This
20-foot model is by no means the tallest K'nex construction ever built, but it
might be the narrowest at only 6 inches across. It consists of just under 3000
K'nex parts, many of them needed for internal strengthening that becomes much
more important in structures exceeding 15 feet. After various attempts with
string-assisted raising, the best results were obtained by assembling the tower
in two parts using a tall ladder. A more sophisticated, telescoping tower might
be self-raising using internal chain-driven "bootstrap" sections if these were
stable enough. This image shows an American flag at the top of our tower.
