These K'nex constructions were the most fun because they became another toy in
themselves! To create K'nex pieces based on the Soma puzzle cube, it was
necessary to form adjoined cubelets so that pieces would fit together properly
(in other words, it was not enough to simply double the dimensions of cubic
areas). This becomes evident when thinking of the entire Soma cube (Image 5) as
consisting of 27 identically-sized cubelets. The composite image in the first
Soma link in the gallery page contains a cut-away view of one of these cubelets,
showing how rigid connections were made using internal white rods and longer
rods between opposing outer walls. The combination of white rod and red
connector approximated external corners. This image shows the classic Soma
design called Tower 2.
