Gallery Image The K'nex elevator uses a chain drive powered by the electric motor to move a continuous loop of staircase elements. The lower platform is raised somewhat to allow clearance for the returning elements hidden beneath the structure. Each stair is formed by five red connectors attached in parallel to a blue rod, with an additional inverted red connector in the center used to connect the stair to a chain link at a 45-degree angle. The vertical face of the stair is filled out with five green rods attached to the red connectors. To provide a realistic speed of motion, the motor unit utilizes a single reduction gear consisting of a small blue and large red gear.
